Sir Shoto Ram Biography Life History – If you are interested in the history of Indian independence and the history of Indian politics, there is one name that you cannot miss, and that is Sir Shoto Ram. The anniversary of the birth of Sir Shoto Ram is celebrated on 24 November. Sir Chotu Ram was one of the prominent politicians in the era of British rule of India. He was born on November 24, 1881, in Garhi Sampla village in Rohtak district of Haryana. Sir Chhotu Ram’s name was Ram Richpal and he was the youngest in his family, after which his family called him Chotu Ram, a name which was then known by everyone in India.

Sir Shoto Ram belongs to a very humble family and after completing his education in his village, he moved to Delhi, where he completed his education and joined St Stephen’s College and obtained his graduation degree. Then Sir Shoto Ram obtained his law degree from Agra College. Sir Shoto Ram belonged to the Jat community and was an advocate of farmers and their rights, and soon was considered “Kisano ka Masiha”. Sir Shoto Ram made tremendous contributions in order to spread awareness that farming was the primary activity. Some of his critics described Sir Shoto Ram as a class leader, however, his work to develop farmers could not go unnoticed.

Sir Shoto Ram started his legal practice in 1912, along with him he founded the Jat Sabha, after which the Jat Gazette was launched soon after. In 1916, Sir Shoto Ram joined politics and became a member of the Congress Party. Soon after joining the Congress Party, Sir Shoto Ram became Chairman of the Rohtec County Congressional Committee until 1920. He also made a significant contribution to conscription by the British Army for World War I. Sir Shoto Ram sent over 22,000 jats from Rohtak. After World War I, Sir Shoto Ram supported the World War II conscription campaign for the British as well. Then, in 1923, Sir Shoto Ram also formed a unitary party by forming an alliance with Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan and Fazl Hussain. The Unionist Party won the elections, a coalition government was formed and Sir Shoto Ram was appointed as Minister for Revenue. Sir Shoto Ram passed many laws during his tenures such as the Mande Act and the Consolidation of Acquisitions Act, and worked to ensure that the laws were implemented rather than just passed.
