OXFORD, UK, Jan 18, 2022 (Globe Newswire) – Terrestrial Energy has appointed a senior nuclear industry executive as managing director of UK operations as the company works to develop its new nuclear technology.
Michael Drury joins the company from the UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), where he led the business development function for new construction and advanced nuclear technologies, including Small Modular Reactors and Advanced Modular Reactors.
This appointment comes as Terrestrial Energy moves forward with the development and commercialization of its fourth generation nuclear technology for its integrated molten salt reactor (IMSR) in the UK.
Mr. Drury has extensive experience in strategy and execution at the intersection of industry and government in the nuclear industry in both NNL and formerly Nuvia.
Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy, said: “Developments in North America are moving the fourth generation nuclear power plant towards deployment in the near term, and we recognize that IMSR technology is an ideal innovation in nuclear technology for the UK, especially at a time when the situation is escalating. Energy and electricity prices. We are pleased to have Michael join Terrestrial Energy to lead the company’s business development in the UK where interest in new nuclear innovation is growing. He brings a unique and profound understanding of the UK’s energy policy framework and its vibrant nuclear sector.”
Michael Drury, Managing Director of Terrestrial Energy UK said: “With its Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, the UK is committed to new nuclear technology and innovation to achieve Net Zero’s goals. This creates an exciting market opportunity for Terrestrial Energy’s fourth power plant. IMSR technology is well suited because it produces clean electricity 50 per cent more efficiently than conventional nuclear technology. Its high-quality heat provides a versatile industrial case that includes affordable green hydrogen production I look forward to accelerating the company’s plans in the UK and initiating siting programmes, sharing regulatory, supply chain development including national laboratory and university testing of key components.”
About Earth Energy
Terrestrial Energy is a developer of small and modular nuclear power plants that use Integrated Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) technology. IMSR is a non-water light reactor that uses fourth generation technology to generate electricity 50 percent more efficiently than conventional nuclear reactor technology. IMSR represents a step change improvement in the economy, versatility and functionality of nuclear power plants that can only be achieved through 4G technology. IMSR power plants will provide flexible, reliable, deployable, carbon-free and cost-competitive electrical power, as well as high-quality industrial heat for use in many industrial applications, such as chemical synthesis, hydrogen production and water desalination, thus expanding the application of nuclear power far beyond energy markets. electrical. IMSR power plants have the potential to make important contributions to industrial competitiveness, energy security, and economic growth. Its deployment will support rapid global decarbonization of the primary energy system by substituting fossil fuel combustion across a large scale and could expand to meet the net zero policy goals of major industrial economies. Using innovative design and proven molten salt reactor technology, Earth Energy is working with regulators and industrial partners to complete IMSR engineering and operate the first IMSR power plants within a decade.
