Virat Kohli Biography: Birth, Age, Family, Education
Virat Kohli was born on the 5th of November 1988 from Prem Kohli and Saroj Kohli in Delhi, India. His father was a criminal attorney while his mother was a homemaker. He was raised in Uttam Nagar in Delhi and attended Vishal Bharti Public School and Savior Monastery. Kohli’s father was bedridden for a month and had a cardiac arrest on December 18, 2006.
Virat Kohli’s cricket career
When the West Delhi Cricket Academy was set up in 1998, Kohli was part of the first batch and trained under Rajkumar Sharma.
Kohli made his cricket debut in October 2002 with the Delhi Under-15 team in the 2002-2003 Polly Umrigar Cup and led the team to the next title. He was later named to the Delhi U-17 team in the 2003-04 Vijay Merchant Cup where he finished as the top scorer.
At the age of 18, Kohli made his first division debut with Delhi against Tamil Nadu where he scored 10 runs. In July 2006, he made his debut in the U19 team during the India Tour of England. India won both the ODI and Test series. Kohli made his T20 debut the next year and emerged as the top scorer in the Inter-State T20 Championship with 179 points.
2008 was a year that changed Kohli’s life. Firstly, he captained the winning team of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Secondly, he was bought by RCB for 30 thousand dollars under a youth contract for the IPL. Third, he made his international debut.
After recovering from a minor injury, Kohli replaced Gambhir in the Triple Threat Series in Sri Lanka and hit the no. 4th place in the 2009 Cricket Champions Cup as Yuvraj Singh was recovering from injury.
For the ODI Triple Championship in Bangladesh in 2010, Tendulkar was resting and thus Kohli was able to play in every match. For his exceptional performance in Bangladesh, he was praised by then captain MS Dhoni.
Kohli was part of the World Cup winning team in 2011 and became the first Indian hitter to score a century in his World Cup debut.
Kohli made his Test debut against West Indies in Kingston and performed poorly in the series, collecting only 76 times in five rounds. In 2015, he became the first Indian hitter to score a century against Pakistan in a World Cup match.
During the Tour of South Africa in India, he became the fastest batsman in the world to do 1000 times in T20I cricket, achieving the feat in his 27 innings.
During the ODI Tour of Australia, Kohli emerged as the fastest batsman in the world to cross the 7000 mark in ODIs, and the fastest to score in 25 centuries.
During the 3 Test Series matches against Sri Lanka at home in 2017, he became the first hitter to score a six hundred double as captain. That year, he scored a total of 2,818 international tours, the third highest record for an Indian in a calendar year and the highest ever for any Indian player.
In August 2018, he got no. 1st place in the ICC test rankings. Thus, he became the seventh Indian mixture to achieve this feat. He became the first Indian captain, first captain and tenth overall to reach three consecutive centuries in ODIs in October 2018.
Captain
For the Zimbabwe tri-series in 2010, Raina was named captain while Kohli was named deputy captain. During that, he emerged as the fastest Indian hitter to reach the 1000 ODI Tour.
He was appointed deputy captain of the 2012 AFC Asian Cup due to his excellent performance in Australia.
Kohli captained the 2013 Triple Threat winning team West Indies after Donny injured himself during the match. He also led the five-game ODI round in Zimbabwe, which India won 5-0, the first in any ODI series away from home.
He was named deputy captain of the 2014 ICC World T20 competition where India emerged as the runner-up and Kohli the man of the tournament with 319 runs in the tournament.
He led India in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which India won 5-0. It was the second bleaching under his leadership and the fourth in Indian ODI history.
He led India in the first Test of the Australian Tour and scored 115 points in the first rounds, thus becoming the fourth Indian to score a hundred in his first test drive appearance. Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket at the conclusion of the third match between India and Australia, and appointed Kohli as full-time Test captain ahead of the fourth Test in Sydney.
In Sydney, Kohli scored 147 in the first rounds and became the first Test cricketer to score a three hundred in his first three rounds as a Test captain. He was named as the captain of the 2016 World Twenty20 “Team of the Tournament” by the ICC.
He led India in the 2017 Cricket Champions Cup. India entered the finals but lost to Pakistan. Kohli also led the 2019 Cricket World Cup where India failed to reach the finals after losing their semi-final match against New Zealand. India’s first acquittal under Kohli was India’s tour of New Zealand in 2020.
India lost the final of the 2021 ICC World Test Championship to New Zealand, defeating Kohli third as captain in the knockout and finals of the ICC Championships. India failed to reach the semi-finals of the 2021 FIFA Men’s T20 World Cup under Kohli.
He also led the royal rival Bangalore team for 8 seasons in the IPL but failed to win the cup.

In 2013, he started dating Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma. Soon the couple received the nickname Virushka. Virat and Anuskha tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 11, 2017 in Florence, Italy. The couple had a daughter named Famika.
